WordPress API integration Afas

AFAS is a powerful engine for your back office. For what you show to the outside world, such as a website or a careers environment, WordPress offers more freedom. With a direct API integration, we combine the best of both worlds.

  • Full design freedom
Forget the limitations of OutSite. We design a WordPress environment that fits your corporate identity and brand story, with a smooth user experience.
  • No double entry
If you change something in AFAS, such as a vacancy or customer profile, it is automatically updated on the website. Manual retyping is no longer necessary.
  • Better SEO and conversion
WordPress offers many possibilities for search engine optimization and conversion. This way you attract more visitors and convert them faster into candidates or customers.
  • Data directly into the right workflow
Applications and forms end up directly in AFAS via secure links, in the right workflow and with the right colleague.

WordPress as an alternative to AFAS OutSite

For many organizations, AFAS OutSite is a logical start, but not always the most flexible solution when brand experience, user-friendliness, and findability become more important. With WordPress and a custom AFAS integration, you combine the power of AFAS Profit with much more freedom at the front end.

That means: a careers website that truly fits your employer brand, landing pages that can rank better in search engines, and forms that are smarter designed for conversion. The data continues to end up in AFAS, but the experience for visitors becomes a lot stronger.

This is especially interesting for organizations that want to grow in recruitment or lead generation. You are no longer bound by the limitations of a standard environment, while your processes in AFAS remain leading. This creates a solution that better aligns marketing, recruitment, and operations.

Our expertise: careers & leads from one source

We help organizations that already use AFAS as a basis to get more out of their WordPress website. Sometimes the employer brand is central, sometimes lead generation or CRM. We often combine both into one smart solution, so that all data ends up neatly in AFAS.

Careers websites

Publish vacancies on a fast, easy-to-find careers environment on your own domain. Candidates apply via a user-friendly form in WordPress. Data, CV, and motivation automatically end up as a dossier item in the correct AFAS workflow.

Lead generation and CRM

Let quote requests and contact forms land directly in the CRM module of AFAS. The website ensures a smooth experience and smart validation, while your sales team continues to work in AFAS. This way, no lead is ever lost.

The technology: how we make WordPress talk to AFAS

We don't build a black box. We work with the official AFAS REST API and keep the structure of the integration clear. That makes the solution stable, expandable, and easy to manage.

GetConnectors and UpdateConnectors
The integration consists of two data streams:

  • GetConnectors are used to retrieve data from AFAS. Think of vacancies, salary scales, or customer data. With smart caching in WordPress, the site stays fast, even with many visitors.
  • UpdateConnectors are used to securely send data back to AFAS. We build in checks and validation, so that the data is processed neatly according to the AFAS schema.

Security first
Security and privacy are a fixed part of our approach. We work with encrypted tokens and a secure HTTPS connection. We store sensitive data as little as possible in WordPress. The website is a secure gateway. Data goes back to the source, your AFAS environment, as quickly as possible.

The exact setup differs per organization, but in practice, we often see the same types of data streams returning. On the front end, it's usually about content and ease of use. On the back end, the data must end up clean, secure, and in the right place in AFAS.

Common integrations include:

  • Retrieving and displaying vacancies from AFAS on a careers website
  • Writing applications from WordPress back to AFAS
  • Sending CVs, cover letters, and attachments as dossier items
  • Forwarding contact requests or quote requests to AFAS CRM
  • Displaying custom fields and extra attributes from AFAS on the website
  • Using customer or organization data within forms or workflows
  • Smartly using statuses, filters, or metadata for a better user experience

By designing these data streams well in advance, you prevent loose workarounds and double entry. The result is a WordPress environment that works pleasantly for visitors, while AFAS remains the central system for management and follow-up.

What does a WordPress AFAS integration deliver in practice?

The biggest gain is usually not just in technology, but in peace of mind and speed within the process. Recruiters don't have to manually transfer applications, marketers get more freedom in building pages, and the sales team can work from AFAS without separate exports or intermediate steps.

In practice, this often results in:

  • Less manual work for recruitment and back office
  • Faster follow-up of applications and leads
  • Fewer errors due to double entry
  • More freedom in design, content, and SEO
  • A better candidate experience on the website
  • Cleaner data and more control over workflows in AFAS

This way, the website becomes not just a storefront, but an active part of your process. That is exactly where a good WordPress and AFAS integration makes the difference.

Frequently asked questions about the AFAS WordPress integration

Security always has the highest priority. We connect via the official AFAS REST API with a secure token, the AppConnector. In WordPress itself, we do not store any privacy-sensitive data from AFAS. The website works as a secure gateway.

In addition, we use an encrypted HTTPS connection. We can also set up IP restrictions so that only your web server has access to the AFAS data.

Yes, that is one of the advantages of our custom approach. Every GetConnector you create in AFAS Profit can be read by us.

It doesn't matter if it's about extra attributes of a vacancy, such as a lease car or hybrid working, or custom fields in your CRM. If it's in AFAS, we can show it on the website.

We build the integration to be resilient. For data that doesn't change every second, such as vacancies, we use a smart caching system. This keeps the information on your website visible, even if the AFAS API has a brief outage.

For forms, such as applications, we build in error handling. The data is then temporarily stored and resent as soon as the connection with AFAS is restored.

AFAS uses limits to monitor the performance of their servers. That's why we program our integrations as efficiently as possible.

Instead of retrieving the data again with every website visit, we synchronize the data in the background. This saves API calls and ensures a fast experience for your visitors.

Our WordPress solution is often chosen as a replacement for OutSite, because we then have more design freedom and better SEO possibilities. We pull the data that is normally in OutSite into WordPress via the API.

We usually don't make a direct link with InSite, the internal portal. Only if there are specific workflows that need to be started by actions on the website, do we look at whether a targeted integration makes sense.

When a candidate applies on the WordPress site, we send the attachments directly via the UpdateConnector. These documents end up in AFAS as a dossier item with the right person and the right vacancy.

The recruiter therefore sees the attachments directly in the AFAS cockpit, without extra manual steps.

You can, but it's not a requirement. If you have your own AFAS administrator, we're happy to work with them and align with the setup that's already there.

If you don't have that knowledge in-house, we'll help you think it through. We know which fields and filters are needed and can advise on setting up the right Connectors in your AFAS environment.
